The “Saints Silouan and Sophrony” High School is a private school, not funded by the state, located in Huldenberg, Belgium, with a classical pedagogical approach and a Christian vision.
Why Our School Exists
In troubled times, in a confused society, our school is necessary. Our school seeks to form people: awake, lively spirits, capable of understanding the past and the present, formed in a classical culture that has borne fruit for millennia. With a pure heart and a trained mind, able to discern good from evil, truth from falsehood. Capable of expressing and defending their opinions. Formed in a spiritually healthy environment. People of character, dedicated and empathetic, who will change lives — for the better. We hope to form an authentic elite.
The First Steps
The idea of founding this school appeared in 2011, together with the founding of the Parish “All Saints”. A small group of friends began to seriously ask ourselves how we should raise and educate our children. We understood that a solid education requires harmony between three essential elements: the family, the school and the Church. In 2016, after years of searching, discussions and prayers, we founded the “Saints Silouan and Sophrony” School. In the first year, the five students studied in a room in the house of one of the founding families. In 2017 we managed to buy and renovate a building, and in January 2018 we moved into our new home in Huldenberg, near Leuven. In 2020 we added the secondary level, so that our students could continue their formation until the age of 18.
Our Philosophy
In our school, education is not understood as the simple accumulation of information, but as a path toward truth, meaning and inner growth. We seek to help children discover the Good, the Beautiful and the true purpose of what they learn, to grow in freedom, responsibility, joy and love, and to become strong enough to face life without losing their roots. This is why we often think of our school as a greenhouse, and also as a school of flight: a place where children are helped to grow beautifully, to become fully themselves, and to learn how to carry light within them.
Our School Today
Since 2016, our school has grown steadily, from five students in a family home to a complete educational path including kindergarten, primary, middle school and high school. Today, the life of the school is marked by joy, dedication, gratitude and growth. Children come to school with gladness, teachers fulfil their vocation with love and responsibility, and parents rejoice to see their children flourish. All this is sustained by the blessing of God, by prayer, and by the shared desire to help each child grow beautifully and truthfully.
School Life
Children grow beautifully together through learning, friendship, creativity, activities, celebrations, trips, projects and encounters that bear fruit over time. School life means not only classes, but experiences, friendships, memories and growth together.
Looking to the Future
Today, new challenges stand before us. The current space is already functioning at full capacity, and we need to expand the school, build a sports hall, equip science laboratories, and develop a library and reading room. Many of the great achievements of humanity were built by people who united around an idea and believed in it. We hope that, with the help of those who understand the importance of this work, we will be able to continue building a place where children can grow beautifully and freely.
We Need Your Help
We began our courses in 2016 with only five children, in a room offered by a family who understood the importance of this work. In 2018 we opened our school building in Huldenberg, after taking a loan which we are still repaying today. In 2020 we added the high school level. Now we are facing new steps: expanding the current building, adding a sports hall, equipping laboratories, and building a library and reading room.
